Landscape
Landscape photography offers an opportunity to explore the relationship between light, form, texture, and the natural environment. What attracts me to a particular scene is not always its grandeur, but often the quieter details that give a place its individual character.
I am drawn to the way changing light reveals the contours of the land, how shadows create depth, and how natural elements come together within a composition. Sometimes the attraction is an expansive view; at other times, it is a more intimate arrangement of shapes, colors, and textures. I occasionally use Photoshop’s Oil Paint filter to give an image a more painterly character, simplifying distracting details and bringing greater emphasis to the underlying composition.
My approach is to look beyond the obvious subject and consider how the elements within the frame relate to one another. Research and previsualization are important parts of my photographic process, helping me anticipate the location, lighting, and composition before making an image. Yet there is always room for discovery. The challenge is not simply to record a location, but to create a photograph that conveys what made me stop and look.
These photographs represent moments of observation, interpretation, and documentation, each reflecting a particular encounter with the landscape. They also reflect the pleasure of leaving the city behind, exploring the countryside, and discovering what the natural world has to offer.
